What is Cheongsam Wearing For?

Cheongsam is the traditional dress of the Chinese people and it has transcended across generations. The cheongsam is worn as a loose-fitting summer dress which is open on the chest area. It is also a traditional Thai dress.

The word chinese originates from the middle tongue ‘kung’ or ‘han’, that is ‘speak in’ in colloquial usage, so today ‘cheongsam’ refers to clothes made in China.

The dress originated from Korea and other eastern countries but today is popular all over the world, especially among the Chinese people. It is now worn by westerners and is a great dress code to be in when going out for dinner.

However, its original meaning had nothing to do with dinner. In fact, it was a form of dress meant to be casual so as not to appear too formal. Now, people wear it every day as a casual wear and most recently has developed a more elegant form that includes fringe, intricate designs, sequins and embroidery.

What Is the Meaning Behind the Qipao?

The QIPao is often confused with the Zhi Qi, the Ancient Secret Art of Chinese Dancers. However, these two forms of dress are actually very different.

The meaning behind the Qipao is that it symbolizes wealth in ancient China. In comparison, the Zhi Qi is a form of more contemporary dressing and is generally considered to be more fashionable and easier to wear.

Today, the Qipao is still considered to be the most popular and preferred dress among Chinese people. They will wear this particular dress to celebrate many important events such as a marriage, a birthday party, special occasions and other important occasions.

The women who wear this dress will feel extremely happy and excited. Many believe that this particular dress has magical powers and that they can get some special things from wearing them.

Today, the dress is worn by Chinese people as a sign of their status, wealth and honor. In fact, you can see several common men and women wearing a Qipao! In general, there are many meanings behind the Qipao.

What is the Difference Between Cheongsam and Qipao?

What is the difference between cheongsam and hippo? Qipao and cheongam both refer generally to a single or two-piece dress of Chinese origin made from silk. As a traditional garment, it is usually worn by women. However, it may also be used as men’s wear, especially in certain occupations such as actors and singers.

Aside from the main difference in terms of design and usage, the main difference between cheongsam and qipao lies in their materials. Qipao is generally made from a material that is softer and smoother than that of cheongsam.

In terms of construction, cheongsams are more open on the front and back while the more formal and formalized qipao is closed on the front and back.

The materials used in making a particular piece of Chinese dress are often selected based on the availability of these resources and the time (or lack thereof) needed for processing.

This means that a piece which is available in large quantities at the time of manufacture may not necessarily be available in small quantities a few days later due to the time needed for processing.

What Are Chinese Dresses Called?

First of all, what are Chinese dresses called? In English it is commonly known as “cheongsam”, but in China it is commonly known as “jiao wo”. It really depends on which region, which culture, which dynasty, and which emperors influenced the country, that is called in or chinese, it’s now known as a jingle, or jian zhou.

In the late Qing dynasty (be going back to time here), the powerful native population had already developed a standardized dress for everyday use. This dress was called the human, which literally means “cloth clothes for men”, and this is where the term jingle comes from.

After several periods of reunification and division, during the period of the Boxer Rebellion (known as the Qing Dynasty), there were numerous invasions and partial partitions of China by foreign powers.

Many of these invasions lasted longer than six months and in many cases there was warlordism between various tribes, who used their women as wives to foreign soldiers, and the women were used as sexual slavery.

This brought China into the world’s stage as a hugely successful civilization, but it was only after several years that the new unified China could attain true prosperity. This period also brought about profound changes within the Chinese culture, especially within the Chinese language itself.

Conclusion

There was a time when people believed that the Chinese were the ones who invented the modern Chinese dress code, as this happened during the period of the Jingdezhen rebarding the Jingdezhen imperial court.

However, this can be considered as a myth, as the style of the dress invented by them was certainly far from the western clothes styles. Today, Chinese women still use the same dress codes, called the Chinese dress, to signify their social status.

All over the world, Chinese women show their respect to their elders by wearing the same dress they used to when they were in school, or when they were children. Therefore, if you want to look great and feel comfortable, be sure to wear a traditional Chinese dress made from white silk, which is appropriate for all occasions.
