Keeping nail polish in the fridge is one of those things that we hear about and look forward to but never put into practice.
Probably because we’re afraid we might end up eating it or using it incorrectly.
Nail polish can be very messy, especially if you end up smearing it all over the place and making a mess.
That’s why we tend to leave it on the bathroom shelf, under the sink or in the fridge but are we good enough cooks to treat it like we would our kitchen pantry ingredients?
Should you keep your nail polish in the fridge?
The answer is yes. Keeping your nail polish in the fridge will extend its life and keep it fresh, like when you first bought it from the shops.
That said, remember to put your nail polish out of the fridge about an hour (or two hours) before you apply it on your nails. This way, it will get looser, and it will be easily spread on your nails.
Use healthy types of nail polish
Some types contain a type of preservative called nitrate that’s used to make the product last longer.
The other type does not contain any sort of preservative.
If you’re just putting it on once every few weeks, then it’s probably okay to keep it out on your nails.
If you wear it daily, or even multiple times a day, then it’s probably not a good idea to keep it in the fridge.
Also, if you have a lot of polish on your nails, then it’s probably not a good idea to store it in there at all.
Nail polish helps you look stylish
One of the main reasons people get nail polish is so that they can look stylish.
However, if your look is all about showing off your beautiful nails, then you don’t want to put something on your nails that will cause them to look green.
Of course, if you’re just putting it on for the heck of it or you’re going somewhere special where your nails won’t be seen (which, hopefully, never will be), then it doesn’t really matter.
It’s not like you’re going to spend your whole day looking at your nails.
But if you’re going to a formal event with business attire, it may be a good idea to put some on.
Use nail polish for healthy nails
Another reason some women love to put nail polish on their nails is because it makes their nails look “healthy”.
You can actually buy nail polish that has Vitamin E added to it to make them look healthy.
Just make sure that you choose a brand that isn’t loaded with artificial ingredients.
Be sure to choose one with Vitamin E that’s specifically designed to help your skin, not your nails!
So nail polish is definitely a “must-have” item on anyone’s kitchen pantry!
Does putting nail polish on the refrigerator to make it last longer?
You’ll be surprised.
There’s no chemical in nail polish that is going to keep your nails from drying out.
There’s nothing that can damage the finish on your nails or make them more likely to peel.
In fact, food items like raisins can actually cause damage to your nails and call your nail polish more often than you might think.
The only thing that will slow down the process of drying is something that you put in your mouth.
You should try to avoid sucking on your nails
The suction from sucking on them causes too much moisture to enter the nail and weaken the polish.
You should instead wipe your finger with an alcohol wipe or an antibacterial wipe after sucking on a nail.
The alcohol wipe will dry out the food items that you just ate or drank, which makes them less likely to stick to your nails.
This is especially important if you usually wear nail polish, since the polish and remover are not used together.
What to do if you wear artificial nails
If you wear artificial nails, avoid eating or drinking after they come off.
This is because the food items in those nails can become stuck and become a breeding ground for bacteria.
Also, your nails will look different after eating than they would if you just rubbed them clean.
This doesn’t mean you should never eat or drink after wearing artificial nails, but you should use these tips when possible.
What to do when the nail polish dries out
When the nails dry out, it becomes easier to walk and move them.
That’s why it’s recommended you walk without polish on your nails at least once a day.
However, some people only do it once or twice a day.
If you only do it once or twice a day, then chances are slim that it will be bad for your nails.
However, if you wear them all day long, then it’s probably best to keep them dry until you get home from work.
When the nails dry out, it’s important you do not walk on them
If you must walk on them, make sure the area is well dry before you put on your nail polish.
This will prevent damaging your nails while walking.
If your nails are already very discolored, then you should definitely walk on them with your nail polish on.
It’s also a good idea to use a nail file to gradually file away at your nails.
The best way to achieve this is by starting at the bottom (cuticle) and slowly filing your nails down to the tip.
To speed up the process, apply nail polish very thin to start with, then allow it to dry before starting.
This will speed up the drying process.
There are two simple ways to apply the nail polish to your nails
The first is the tube method, where you just put some on your nails, let it dry, then apply it to each nail.
The other way to put it on is the brush on method, which is a little more messy but is much easier to apply.
Basically, you brush on the polish in horizontal strokes, just like you would with any other kind of nail polish.
Either way, taking care of your nails means taking care of your hands are always one of your best lines of defense against catching germs.
