How To Cut Your Hair Yourself

Your hair strands need room to grow, in order to give the strands enough room, you are required to trim your hair regularly. In this fast-paced world, it is very difficult to take time out for hair salon every time.

You will succeed two out of four times, but that is certainly not enough to keep your hair healthy. If you can learn how to cut your hair yourself, that can really help you and come handy when you are rushing for something very important event and do not want your hair to look frizzy.

It is recommended that one should at least trim once in six weeks. If it goes beyond that you might start having dry, dull and rough hair.

How To Cut Your Hair Yourself Effectively

Why should you learn DIY?

If it does happen to you quite frequently, that you miss visits to your hairstylist. Then probably it is the time when you should learn how to cut your hair yourself. If you have shoulder-length hair or even longer, you can easily do this.

Irrespective of the texture, it is pretty much do-able. Once you get good at it, you can start adding layers as well. But to start off, it always recommended to not tampering too much.

Now, the question arises about how you should go about the business. If you can follow the step to step DIY given below, you can achieve the feat easily.

Dusting

You can start off with dusting; it is a process to remove bare minimum dry ends. If you have shorter hair, and you are able to do dusting once in three weeks, it is good enough. The trim is done to remove split ends. You just remove half to an inch.

So, next time when you start to have bad hair you can try out dusting. It is a very good start; if you won’t answer the question of how to cut your hair yourself by just doing it.

Take the first step

Once you get good at dusting, you can move ahead, but step by step. Always remember you cannot rush into it, this is also an art. You can master it but it will take time. You can move further with step by guide given below.

Smoothening – You need to have your hair smooth enough to start the proceedings. To smooth you your hair, start with making the hair damp. You can spray water using a sprayer or you can just towel dry.

Once your hair is damped, detangle your hair using tooth comb or paddle brush. Brush them properly and make a ponytail. Make sure your hair is secured tightly, you can elastic or band to tighten your hair.

Alignment- Position is very important when you are just in the process of learning how to cut your hair yourself, position yourself standing straight in front of the mirror.

Squeeze your hair using your non-dominant hand. Squeeze the elastic to the base of the ponytail, and start pulling it upwards towards the ends. Once your dominant hand is about three inches away from the ends, stop it.

The first cut – Once you have positioned yourself, you can start the cutting. Make sure you have a good pair of sharp hair cutting shears available with you. Using the shears start off by cutting edges! Don’t rush; take it as slow as possible.

Cut as little as possible at a time and work your way through all of the ends

Get to the objective – Once you have done with cutting the primary edges, you get a chance to rethink. This is time you should get clarity, whether you just want to dust or go ahead with further cuts.

If you just want to dust, just cut across the top of the ends. If you want to go ahead to cut more, you can start cutting across to the top of your ponytail.

If can do this much successfully, you can say have at least learnt the basics and know how to cut your hair yourself.

Move up the ladder

Once you have successfully cleaned your ends, you can now move on to the fringes. It is very important if you learn a skill, you learn it through. Trimming your own bang needs different game altogether.

But the good thing is, it is not as complex as you have thought. All you need to take care that your hair is damp enough to proceed, and you are using a good pair of sharp scissors.

Point-cutting – To start off you need to section off the area of your bang. Take outer corners of the eyes as a reference, and make a triangular section on either side of the centre. Once you are done with sectioning, take help of toothed comb and bring all the hair forward to your forehead.

Start off by trimming ends, and proceed with cutting into the hair with a point to point. This process is called point-cutting. Again, you need not rush into it. Go as slow as possible.

If you can point-cut successfully, meaning you have really improved your game, you are slowly getting into the territory of pros; you certainly know how to cut your hair yourself.

The self-inspection

Once you are done with cuttings, take your down, shake them properly. You can take the feel of your hair by just running your fingers through. Now, take the courage and check out in the mirror. If you have managed to get even layers, and the layers now look healthier than before.

You have done it. Give yourself a pat on your back. Even, if there are some uneven layers don’t get discouraged by it. Just a few a hours ago you were just wondering and looking at blogs to learn how to cut your hair yourself.
