Can You Wear False Eyelashes While Swimming?

Wouldn’t it be wonderful to look like you’re always on the beach or lying on the beach when you don’t need to?

Well you certainly can with false eyelashes.

In fact, many people use them for just that reason, to make themselves look like they’re on vacation.

However, there are safety concerns involved with false eyelashes while swimming and if you don’t want to risk your eyesight just for looks, then you might not be the best candidate for trying them on.

Can you wear false eyelashes while swimming?

First off, no one really knows what kind of effect false eyelashes would have on someone who was swimming.

They might see a strange white haze developing around their eyes, but that could simply be because of the surface in which they were swimming.

This doesn’t mean that they couldn’t sustain damage to their eyes.

So if you were planning on using these, you might want to try out some old contacts first.

How to safely swim with false eyelashes

You could easily lose lashes by splashing too hard into the water or by focusing too much on the lens when you’re eyes are open.

If you were going to wear a false eyelash however, and you were wearing your regular eye gear such as contacts, sunglasses, and so on, then you would be completely safe.

Your eyelids would block out all of the light, so any extra light that passed through would simply reflect off of the eyelashes instead.

So no extra glare for you – just the normal sunshine.

However, the stronger the natural light from the sun, the more likely you are to lose your lashes.

False eyelashes are available in many different styles, shapes, lengths, and materials

Some are even disposable.

One type of false eyelash material that you definitely don’t want to mess around with is called minis, because it’s very difficult to remove and replace.

Another type of material that you definitely don’t want to swim with are plastic eyelashes, because they are not water resistant at all and can easily get snagged on sharp objects in the water.

I guess it wouldn’t be so bad if you were just playing in the pool, but you certainly don’t want to go snorkeling when you’ve got fish on your eyelashes!

If you do decide to go snorkeling with minis, just make sure that you rinse them off immediately after your encounter with the fish.

Don’t use a Q-tip to try to suck them off, because they will get stuck in your gloves and cause irritation to your eyes.

Can you wear false eyelashes while swimming if you are allergic to eyelash products?

Yes, you absolutely can.

Fish will cause irritation to your eyes, and because your eyes are so tiny, any irritation you receive will be near impossible to hide.

So, if you are allergic to eyelash products, I would highly suggest that you remove them right away before entering the water.

Cn you use cheap eyelashes for swimming?

Now, if you are fine with being underwater without eyelash products, and you want to wear false eyelashes while swimming, then just purchase the cheapest type possible.

You won’t have to worry about it getting snagged on anything, and you won’t have to deal with irritation.

Just make sure that you rinse them off right away, and keep up your maintenance routine.

You will be fine!

Does water damage ruin your fake lashes?

Fake lashes contain tiny plastic fibers and even the slightest abrasion or pressure can cause these fibers to come apart.

Water, on the other hand, is a non-disposable liquid.

So when it comes to mascara, the answer is no, but the question becomes: does water damage your eyelashes?

The glue used to keep your mascara wand together is also very fragile.

Glue comes from the manufacturer, not from the pump.

When you try to remove the mousse plug, you might be able to break it – or at least chip a small, delicate piece – that’s why it’s important to keep a bottle of hand sanitizer handy just in case.

The glue used to hold the fake lashes together is very thin

It’s made of petroleum jelly, which is a petroleum wax that’s waterproof but also a very flexible glue that won’t stick to your eyelashes if it gets wet.

The problem is that it won’t remain waterproof forever, especially if you go swimming or are in the sun for extended periods.

Sometimes the glue will get a little sticky and start to ooze out.

Does water damage your waterproof mascara?

The answer to that depends on how much you drink.

If you’re drinking a lot of water, then yes, you will most likely be unable to remove the glue from your mascara wand.

However, you will be able to slightly dampen the area with rubbing alcohol and this will make the glue adhere less to your eye lashes.

Does water damage to your waterproof mascara make your eyes look reddish?

The answer is yes.

The redness caused by dehydration is actually what makes your eyes look dirty.

This redness will appear around the perimeter of your eyelashes and is caused by the mascara being soaked up by the tears.

You can remove this redness with moisturizer, but it’s not really necessary.

Does water damage to your waterproof mascara makes your lashes come off faster than they should?

The answer to this question depends on how bad your mascara is.

The glue that holds your waterproof mascara is the same sort of glue that keeps mascara on for an extended period of time, allowing you to put it on even when you’re not going outside or looking in the mirror.

If the glue is starting to loosen, the mascara isn’t doing what it’s supposed to do.

It may be a good idea to toss the mascara container in the trash and replace it with a new one.

Does water damage to your waterproof mascara leave your eyelashes looking ragged and smoky?

The answer to this question depends on how much the damage is.

If you have very noticeable damage, such as a huge raccoon eye in your eye lashes, then yes, your mascara probably has made your eyes look that way.

Otherwise, your mascara might just be old, and waterproof mascaras should last as long as you like before tearing apart.

Again, the answer to this question will depend on how bad the damage is.

If you have large tears in your lashes or large pieces missing, then yes, your mascara is probably coming off too quickly.

You will have to pull it out immediately and re-apply the makeup.

Your lashes will grow back over time

To avoid having to reapply your waterproof mascara, you can opt to buy waterproof mascara that is already moist to help the formula stick to your lashes longer.

Does water damage to your waterproof mascara make your eyes appear dried out and red?

Sometimes, water damage to your waterproof mascara can make your eyes look dry out and red because of the ingredients that are in the mascara.

The most common culprit is the primer that is used to help give your eyelids color, but sometimes it’s due to something as simple as leftover mascara that has clumped on your eyes.

If this is the case, simply remove the leftover mascara with a cotton bud and reapply it.
